CALCHAQUÍES VALLEYS

THE CALCHAQUIES VALLEYS EXTEND FROM NORTH TO SOUTH OVER THE REGION CENTER OF THE PROVINCE OF SALTA THE WEST OF THE PROVINCE OF TUCUMAN AND NORTHWEST REGION OF THE PROVINCE OF CATAMARCA WITH AN ALTITUDE THAT CHANGES FROM 1700 M TO 3000 METERS ABOVE SEA LEVEL. THIS VALLEY HAS THE HIGHEST VINEYARDS OF THE WORLD.

The region is characterized by its semiarid climate of height and the arid of mountains, with high indexes of solar radiation, continentally and little rains with snowfalls in high summits.

The rains of the year ranges from 97 mm in La Poma to 197 mm in Cafayate and Santa María, Catamarca.

THE INTENSE AND DRY WINDS WITH PREDOMINANCE OF THE NORTHWEST AND WEST AND THE DRYNESS OF THE ENVIRONMENT GENERATES THE OPTIMAL CONDITIONS TO GET HIGH QUALITY VINEYARDS.

The soils are new of little profile development. In general they are of type sandy, of thick textures, sometimes with presence of gravels and in depth of blocks of stone until 40 cm of diameter, in general they are very well drained. All these characteristics describe an ideal soil for the development of high quality cultivation of grapevines.
